DOS STAMP Development Boards

DOS Stamp
DOS Stamp boards, manufactured by Bagotronix Inc. of Florida, USA, can provide an excellent solution for those applications requiring the power of an AMD188ES processor running at 40 MHz, with PC compatibility, ISP (In-System-Programming) via Flash, available software-based power-up and down via RTC, multiple low-power modes, in a small footprint of 6.60 cm × 5.08 cm. It is also possible to add a powerful 12-bit, 8-channel A/D converter, and an M-Systems Disk-on-Chip 2000 module from 8 MB to 144 MB.
L&R Ingeniería has designed for the DOS Stamp a carrier board named DS4AUX (Figures 1, 2), identical in dimensions to a traditional PC/104 board (96.52 × 91.44 × 15.24 mm), adding the following functions:
- Expanded Digital I/O using an 82C55 PPI chip (SMT mounted)
- 4-key expandable keyboard connector
- Alphanumeric LCD port with −V(lcd) generator, contrast control and backlight control transistor
- Expanded Watchdog IC (MAX813L) with DISABLE, RESET generator and headers for external RESET and KICKSTART switches
- Separated 10-pin headers for COM1 / COM2 and RS485, with DCD line for modem control
- Main Vcc MOSFET for Power ON/OFF using ALARM output of RTC
- Analog input stage with 8 active low-pass filters, bypass capable, and 4.096 V Vref buffer (MAX492)
- Limited/protected input for frequency measurement including Schmitt buffer/inverter
- 1 header for DOS Stamp bus expansion
- 1 50-pin header for 82C55 port access, Micro/Sys Netsock/100 compatible pinout

Similarly to its PC/104 cousins, the DOS Stamp behaves like an industrial PC, with multiple advantages:
- Ease of programming: Includes the 80186 Embedded BIOS and DOS 4.0 from General Software Inc. Provides a powerful file system with support for a subset of traditional DOS commands.
- Wide software tool availability: Compilers, linkers, cross-assemblers share the wide PC market — inexpensive and widely available.
- RTOS integration: A complete Real-Time Operating System with multitasking capability can be integrated, or a simpler Real-Time Executive such as µC/OS-II of J. Labrosse can be deployed.
- Ready to use: We can provide the DS4AuxC with or without the DOS Stamp (also available directly at www.bagotronix.com), with full documentation, board schematics, and a CD with software to start working right away in C.
